AI, automation & web · Yorkshire
I'm Tom Robson — a freelancer who helps small businesses solve real problems with practical technology: AI, automation, and the web. Less time lost to the busywork, more spent on what actually grows the business.
What I do
You don't need an AI strategy deck or a six-figure system. You need one or two things that quietly save hours or win work. That's the whole job.
The repetitive tasks eating your week — data entry, admin, follow-ups, moving information between apps — handed to software that just does them. Reliably, around the clock, without the slips.
Not a generic chatbot — a tool trained on your own documents, products and processes. It answers customer questions, drafts replies, summarises and triages, in your voice and with your facts.
When the right fix lives on the web — a fast site that wins trust, a booking flow, or an internal tool your team actually likes — I design and build it properly. No templates dressed up as bespoke.
Not sure where AI actually helps? I look at how you work, find the bottlenecks worth fixing, and tell you straight — including when the answer is 'don't bother'. Advice before spend.
How it works
You always know what's happening, what's next, and what I need from you. Most projects take one to four weeks.
We talk about the business and where the friction actually is — the manual work, the bottlenecks, the things that never get done. I figure out what's worth solving.
You get a clear proposal: what I'll build, which tools, and what it'll cost — and save. No jargon, no AI-for-the-sake-of-it. We agree the approach before any work starts.
I build the automation, tool or site — sharing progress as it comes together. Practical, reliable, and made to fit how you already work, not the other way round.
We run it on real work, catch the edge cases, and tune it until it's dependable. You'll know exactly what it does — and where its limits are.
I put it live, show you (and your team) how to use it, and stay on hand. You're never left with a clever tool nobody knows how to run.
About
I build practical tools for people who are brilliant at what they do but are drowning in the parts that don't need a human — the admin, the repetition, the copy-paste between apps. Cafés, trades, studios, small teams: businesses that can't spare a full-time techie.
There's a lot of AI hype right now, and most of it isn't worth your money. My job is to cut through it: find the one or two things that'll genuinely save you hours or win you work, and build those. Real problems, real results, no buzzwords.
I care a lot about the boring details that make software trustworthy — that it's reliable, that it fits how you actually work, that you understand what it does. A clever tool nobody trusts is worse than no tool at all.
The short version: I'm the technical problem-solver you'd hire full-time if you could — minus the salary, and pointed only at the things that actually move the needle.
FAQ
Still unsure about something? Just ask — the first conversation is always free.
Usually the repetitive, time-eating stuff: answering the same customer questions, chasing invoices, moving data between apps, drafting replies, scheduling, and turning messy spreadsheets into clear reports. If a task is repetitive and rule-based — or buried in documents — there's a good chance it can be automated or handled by a custom AI tool. If it can't, I'll tell you straight.
It depends on the problem — a simple automation is a few hundred pounds; a custom AI tool or web build is more. Everything is quoted up front as a fixed price, so there are no surprises, and the first conversation is always free. I only suggest work that will save or make you more than it costs.
Not at all. Most of my clients run great businesses and have zero interest in the tech — that's exactly the point of hiring me. I handle the complicated parts and hand you something simple that you and your team actually understand how to use.
Most projects run one to four weeks from first chat to something working. Small automations can be live in days; a custom AI tool or website takes a little longer. You always get a clear timeline in the proposal before any work starts.
Yes — it's something I take seriously. Tools are set up so your data stays private and isn't used to train public AI models, and I only ever connect the systems a job genuinely needs. If a task involves sensitive information, we design around that from the start.
I'm based in Yorkshire and work with small businesses across the UK. Most projects run smoothly over email and a couple of video calls, so where you are is rarely a barrier — and if you're local, I'm always happy to meet.
